This website was originally set up in 2005 as a test site and for some time has not been available. We are recommencing testing and if you are a tax professional one would like to participate in this forum get in touch with us via the Contact Page on www.TaxationJournal.com and we can arrange your access to post on this site. Self registration was stopped due to poor quality registrations who would spoil the site for genuine users. As a free resource www.TaxSupport.co.uk is a great interactive way to make new work friends, share work related information and find help and answers in the increasingly complex world of tax. When time pressure to find solutions to tax problems piles on a free resource like this could be a great source to tap into. We have other projects you might like to get involved with too. Why not give writing an article for www.TaxationJournal.com a try! We would olve to hear from any interested tax professionals! Other plans in the Taxation Publications Limited's portfolio include a businesses for sale website, a Tax Jobs website, a general Professional Jobs website and a host of other online tax solutions. If you are looking for a tax professional in the UK why not take a look at our online directory on www.Tax-Directory.co.uk !

I had a letter from HMRC in a PAYE enquiry today suggesting that "... 9 seats and above would appear to fall outside the design weight of up to 3500kg". As usual with HMRC there is no explanation or justification of what seems to be an arbitrary 3500kg !

PAYE end of year online filing service temporarily unavailable HM Revenue and Customs has said that it will be withdrawing temporarily the part of the PAYE Online for Employers - Internet service that allows employers and agents to file Employer’s Annual Returns (P35 and P14s). The service will be unavailable from 1 March to 5 April. In its statement, HMRC said: “This is so we can upgrade it to include the quality checks your Return will have to pass for 2005-06. Only the facility to file end of year Returns is affected so, for example, registration and enrolment, preferences and the sending and receiving of all other forms and Returns are not affected. The full service will be restored by 6 April 2006. Electronic Data Interchange users are not affected at all. This means that between 1 March and 5 April inclusive you will not be able to file your 2005-06 Return (due from 6 April) online using either Third Party Software or our Online Return and Forms – PAYE product. Nor will you be able to send 2004-05 Returns or a ‘test in live’ Return. Our Online Return and Forms – PAYE product will be available for you to input and prepare P35 and P14 data, but you will not be able to send that information until the service is switched back on.” The statement continued: “If you try to file an end of year Return before we have turned the service back on it will fail and you will get error message 1046 saying ‘Authentication failure. The supplied user credentials failed validation for the requested service.’ This does not mean you have entered the wrong user id or password during the suspension period. It simply indicates that the service is not available for submission. We are acutely aware that a number of employers and agents would have liked to submit their 2005-06 Return before 6 April 2006 and we will do all that we can to restore full service as soon as possible after testing and a successful upgrade.”
